Fun on a Stick

We all had a great time at the state fair this past Thursday. Everybody was old enough to enjoy it this year. It's hard for me to believe that Harry was only 6 months old this time last year. This year he is a big boy and enjoyed the rides, the games, and even the food.

Kelly and Harry on the "kiddie" Ferris wheel. Kylie was officially too tall to go on this ride this year which is an interesting milestone of it's own.

Harry on the dinosaur ride taking it all in.

Kelly and Harry on a four-wheeler.

Kylie and Kasey on the pirate ship.

I love this little guy.

Jonathan and all of the kids on the Tilt-a-Whirl. From what I hear, this was always Jonathan's dad's favorite ride...it is Jonathan's favorite ride...and, all of the kids love going on it with him. Every fair we go to, they all have to find the Tilt-a-Whirl.

Kylie and Kelly playing one of many games.

Just because one of the best things about the fair is the food, I'm going to try to list everything that we ate. You know, for any of you who won't make it to the fair this year. You can live vicariously through us. Hah!

1. Chocolate milk shake from the Dairy Barn
2. Cheese Curds
3. Cheeseburger
4. Lefse
5. Sweet Martha's Chocolate Chip Cookies and milk (yes, a bucket full)
6. Pickle Dog (my personal fair favorite if you must know)
7. Sweet Corn
8. Cheese-bread
9. Soft taco
10. Mini Donuts

I think that is everything. We buy one and all share it so I like to think that makes it less fattening. Hmmm, wishful thinking? I think so.

We went on the Ye Old Mill which has become our dorky family tradition. As far as I know, we have went on it every year together since 2001 when Kylie was born.

We rode the big yellow slide. Harry rode with me and giggled the whole way down. Loved that!

We came home with more stuffed animals than I care to admit to. But, we had fun winning them. Jonathan has become the master champion at the milk can/softball toss game. It's one of those games where you win the HUGE animals. Jonathan won once at Valleyfair and once at the State Fair and I have two enormous stuffed animals to prove it.

Both older girls are now tall enough to go on all of the big Midway rides that make me sick to my stomach just looking at them. And ride them they did.

We pet a 24 hour old baby piglet at the miracle of birth building. And all quickly washed and sanitized our hands immediately after. Darn swine flu. Mom, quit telling me about things like the hockey rink/makeshift morgue!!

We stayed well past eleven after spontaneously meeting Kylie's upcoming third grade teacher, her husband, daughter, and grandson while watching the fireworks. We didn't know much about her but NOW we do. She is really sweet and I think will be a great match for Kylie's personality.

As a side note: Kasey got the same first grade teacher as Kylie had. Jonathan and I absolutely adore the man and practically begged him to pull strings so Kasey could be in his class. We weren't sure what would happen but when we got the letter in the mail last week with teacher assignments, we all shrieked with joy! Should be a great year.

Back to the fair...As we left, the girls talked about how "some day" they will go into the haunted house like they do every year. Not sure if they'll ever get the courage to step foot in there as they have built it up to be SO scary but it is quite funny to listen to them come up with all of the reasons that they are not going in it this year.

I still can't believe how big all the kids are getting time flies. It sounds, looks, and smells like you guys had a great time. By smells I mean all the yummy food you ate.

I love all the new blog pictures also and all the fun you had at the fair. What memories. I bet you were all tired when you got home. At least you don't have far to go like we did when we were kids. I also have lots of memories of the state fair.
