Feliz Navidad!

What to do, oh what to do when the big girls are home from school for Christmas break and the temperature is consistently below zero?

I was pondering this question as I went to bed on Sunday night hoping I could keep my "Christmas spirit" in check these next few days. I tend to go a little buggy when we are all stuck inside with not much to do.

Luckily it has all went real well. Kylie and Kasey's best friends Tiff and Taylor came over for most of the day on Monday. Our neighbor kid Ben spent the day at our house too. If you're keeping track, I had seven kids at our house and I actually lived to tell about it. Truth be told, we actually had a good time. The big kids busted out the gingerbread house kit while the little two took their afternoon naps. They decorated it which ever way they wanted to and I can tell you that way works much better than the way we have done it most years. Usually I tend to hover over them insisting that everything be done just so. I like it to look like the one on the box. But, I decided that this year, I would let go a bit and let them all actually enjoy themselves. And they did. They created one funky gingerbread house.

While unleashing their creative genius, I whipped up some mighty fabulous hot chocolate. So fabulous, I decided I must take a photo of it. Umm, who takes a photo of hot chocolate?! I am fully aware that it is strange, but it didn't stop me from doing it anyway.

Once Tiffany and Taylor got picked up, we started round two. My nieces Madison and Emerson came over for a sleep over. I cooked spaghetti and garlic bread for supper and before they all started eating, I heard them start praying totally unprovoked by Jonathan or I. They were too cute. All holding hands and saying a blessing before they stated to eat. Parenting does have it's rewarding moments, ya know.

Once we all woke up, we decided to head out to the 8th floor holiday display at Macy's downtown. We loaded up and made it there by 11am.

And let me give you ONE guess which one of the six gave me a run for my money.

I won't go into details but I'm sure people were wanting to tell me all about this thing called birth control. I'm sure I appeared that I didn't have things under control with my train of six kids. I actually had everything perfectly under control...or at least that was what I kept repeating to myself in my head as Kel continued to melt down.

And of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Macy's at Christmastime without a picture with Santa. And, after the line that I waited in, I was hoping he was passing out Valium to the parents as well as candy canes for the kids.

Oh my gosh - what a day! I can assure you tho that you made a major memory for all those kids despite the fact that it sounds like it was hectic downtown - the gingerbread house, the hot chocolate, the sleep over and the display downtown will stick in their heads forever and when you're older (and them) everyone will remember it and laugh about the parts that you could have used the valium for - believe it, it's true - You are a brave and patient soul!
