Deep Sea Fishing

Our Kylie is not your typical girl. She does have many of the typical traits of a first born child...obeys the rules, adult-pleaser, responsible, bossy, on-time, and organized. But, she is not a girly girl. She loves nature and has a special fondness for fishing. Jonathan, on the other hand, does not. But he happily told her that the two of them would go deep sea fishing while in Cancun. It was kind of like a date. Kasey and I spent our day laying on the beach while Jonathan and Kylie had their own adventure.

They awoke at 6am as they had to be on the dock no later than 7am. They rode the bus to the marina area and found the boat they would be going on. The time of year decided what kind of fish they would be attempting to catch. Barracuda! Jonathan and Kylie were joined by one other couple and three fisherman guys to help guide them. If I remember right, I believe Jonathan said that they were 28 miles off the coast of Cancun and just to get to the spot was an hour boat ride. Once they arrived where they would be fishing, Jonathan said that the waves were huge and the boat was rocking like crazy. He was a little nervous but made sure that Kylie had her life jacket on the whole time. The woman from the other couple was throwing up over the side of the boat from the sea sickness. Not Kylie...what a trooper. They ended up catching quite a few Barracuda and I guess at the last minute, as they were about to call it a day, Kylie landed a really big rock fish. It was the biggest fish that anybody had caught all day and Kylie was mighty proud of herself.

Jonathan and Kylie trying to land the big one!

Kylie holding her largest barracuda. I wouldn't go near that thing with a twelve foot pole!

And finally, the biggest catch of the day. Kylie holding her rock fish. I guess it was still alive by the time the got back to land.

Keeks, that is one big fish and I can't believe you were holding the other long skinny one by yourself - What a great fisherwoman you are - Grandpa said you are one of the best fisherpeople he's ever seen. Take us with next time so that you and Grandpa can go out fishing. I'll stay on the beach with Mom.

No she didn't! That is really funny, good for her. I would not go near either one of those fish with a pole of any length, ugh! That is a great bonding moment for them that they will never forget.

What a free-spirit she is...I love it! Definitely something she will remember forever with fondness. An ode to your parenting skills too - you guys are so good at fostering your kids' unique personalities...thanks for being such great examples for me!
