On Thursday in Cancun we spent our entire day at a nature/amusement park called Xcaret. There is advertising everywhere you turn in Cancun for Xcaret and we had heard good things from people we met that had been there before. It cost an arm and a leg but we had so much fun and made lots of memories so I think that it was worth every penny. The tour bus picked us up outside of our hotel at 9am and it took about an hour to get there.
Xcaret's biggest attraction is the underground natural rivers. It is unlike anything that I have ever seen and we enjoyed it SO much. You put on a life jacket and then go down, underground and hop in the river. It is amazing! The water is refreshingly cool and the surroundings are amazing. It takes about 45 minutes to get through to the end. We all loved it! There are employees seated throughout the trail taking photos so that we could capture this great shot!

When we stepped out of the river, we realized that we had ended up right by the ocean and the "swim with the dolphins" area. This is also something that is heavily advertised in Cancun and we had been debating on whether or not it was something that we wanted to do. It was pretty expensive but also looked like a once in a lifetime kinda thing so we let the girls do it. Again, worth every penny. The girls got to spend roughly 30 minutes in the water with two dolphins. The dolphins jumped over their heads, did tricks with them, and they got to touch them and take plenty of photos with them.
Also by the ocean, are these natural small pools. Separated from the ocean by just a small grouping of rocks, the water collects in these "pools" complete with brightly colored tropical fish. Kylie and Kasey splashed around in the pools for awhile while we waited for their turn to swim with the dolphins.
Wanna know why birds officially freak me out? Look at the birds feathers in the first photo. Normal right?
And now, look at the birds feathers in the second photo. I have no idea what that means the bird is feeling, but it can't be good. They scare me in a big way.
Another really fun thing was this rope bridge that Kylie went across. She was fearless to try it and she made it across on the first try. Jonathan and I were pretty nervous because way out in the middle she was getting really wobbly and we were worried she was going to fall in. She didn't though, and once she made it across, she was very proud of herself. Kasey didn't want anything to do with giving it a try and quite frankly, I don't blame her. It was a long way across and the water was really deep.
And, for good measure, a random family photo...

AMAZING - I would have loved to do some of this stuff myself especially the dolphin stuff - I can't believe both the girls were so willing to get close to something that big - no fear, huh? Very cool!
What a wonderful time you all had by all your photo's. They are so cute especially the dolphins, and the rope bridge, so brave Kylie.
Don't you just LOVE Xcaret. Possibly the highlight of my trip when we went to Cozumel a ways back. Did you see the manatees and GIANT turtles too? One of my favorites too was the wild iguanas and captive birds just scattered all over amongst the public. And don't worry about the bird. He wouldn't be out for the public to pet him if he was a biter. They usually fluff up when they want to be pet.
That is so awsome they got to swim with the dolphins, they will never forget that trip. That picture of the 2 of them is super cute. Oh and you look really good too!
