over the river and through the woods

Last night, Kylie and Kasey left for a weekend full of fun. They went with my mom and her husband Bill to their cabin up north. These weekends are times that the girls look forward to more than anything. They plan for days all of the things that they are going to do up there. I know on the list this time were snowmobile rides, ice fishing, baking "monkey bread", bingo extravaganza, talent shows, visiting the local store for treats and many more that I can't even remember. You would think that they were going up for a week with all of the things that they have planned. But no, they plan on getting all of these things done in a regular old weekend.

I am so happy that they get to have a weekend up there. Not long ago, when my mom would take them for the weekend, I would love it because of the "break" that we would get from the craziness. Now, that they have grown up more, it is not the break that is so much needed...I am just so happy that they get to spend one on one time with grandparents that love them almost as much as Jonathan and I do.

I find myself missing them and wanting to call and check up on them to see what is going on. It just isn't the same without them here. It seems that there is so little to do. I have absolutely every piece of laundry done, the dishwasher is empty as is the sink, I am showered with makeup on, all of the beds are made and Kelly is taking a nap. This is the scenario that I strive for everyday of the week when they are here...the funny thing is, now that I have achieved it all, it is not all that fulfilling. I realize that the thing that brings me real contentment is taking care of all my kids...even through the craziness and stress it can bring.

I talked to them this morning and got an update. My mom said that they stopped at a favorite restaurant on the way that happened to have karaoke. Of course, Kasey made "best friends" with one of the participants and was invited to come on stage with her. She is SO her daddy's daughter. They didn't go to bed until 11pm and were still up with Grandpa Bill this morning at 7:30am. They have a list with everything they want to do today and I am sure that the girls will keep grandma and grandpa on task to get everything completed.

As for us at home...I have an appointment today to get my hair highlighted while Jonathan and Kelly plan to spend the afternoon at the Children's museum. He never gets to join us when we go during the week so I think he is looking forward to spending time with Kelly.

What special memories your whole family is creating this weekend!

I love that my kids get to spend so much quality time with their grandparents too.

We had an absolute blast and both the girls were so good - We got everything accomplished that we had hoped to and while Grandpa and I were alittle bit tuckered out, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute with them. They told me on the way home that the next time they come they want to stay for 8 days! Oh my!
